A Message from Alumni Relations

Kaity Woody (MPA ’15) Assistant Vice Chancellor, Alumni Relations and Annual Giving

Amanda Davis (MPA ’07) Chief Advancement Officer and President, UMKC Foundation
As we welcome you to the 2025 issue of Perspectives, UMKC is reaching new heights through ambition and a commitment to discovery and excellence. This issue celebrates the groundbreaking research, innovative partnerships, and remarkable generosity that continue to shape our university community.
Within this magazine, you will discover stories that highlight the breadth and depth of our university’s research enterprise. From the largest National Institutes of Health grant in our history to groundbreaking research on premature infant health outcomes emerging from the Conservatory, and innovative government partnerships advancing artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, our faculty and students are at the forefront of discoveries that transform lives — locally and globally.
We are thrilled to showcase how our alumni are contributing to the vibrancy of Kansas City. With the opening of the expanded streetcar route, several alumni-owned businesses have become even more connected to the heart of our city. Their stories are a testament to the enduring spirit that defines UMKC.
Throughout these pages, we will also celebrate the transformational power of philanthropy. We’re honored to share the story of a generous donor whose legacy has positively impacted UMKC since the 1940s. Through a trust, this individual has funded scholarships and critical campus renovations that will elevate the student experience and support academic success.
In February, we announced that UMKC has achieved Carnegie R1 status — a milestone that reflects our commitment to world-class research and academic excellence. But our mission extends beyond rankings. It’s about people. It’s about ensuring every student, faculty member, and alum has the support they need to dream bigger, achieve more, and create lasting change.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support, engagement, and belief in our mission inspire us every day. Together, we’re shaping a future that is bright, bold, and brimming with possibility.
Roo Up!
