The UMKC Center for Neighborhoods in Architecture, Urban Planning + Design from the School of Science and Engineering has received a second year of funding from the Hall Family Foundation to support the Community Impact Fellowship.

The Center for Neighborhoods works with individuals and organizations who are motivated to make their block, their neighborhoods and our city a better place by engaging, equipping and empowering neighborhood leaders with the necessary tools to address challenges and leverage the assets within their communities.

“We are thrilled that the Hall Family Foundation understands our vision for resident-led community transformation and that they are investing in neighborhood leaders who, up until now, have not had the opportunity to be supported at this level of commitment,” said Dina Newman, director of the Center for Neighborhoods.

The latest funding will support three fellows, selected from an applicant pool of graduates from the center’s Neighborhood Leadership Training Program. These fellows are recruited from the east side and northeast neighborhoods to work on initiatives that have potentially citywide impact.

The fellowship will serve as a driving force to develop community experts who can contribute to the continuation and development of resilient neighborhoods and stabilized communities.
