Julie Walker Browne and Pete Browne are self-described “public radio nerds.” Their financial support began in 1994, and since then they’ve become major supporters and community advocates of both KCUR and Classical KC.
Pete is a co-founder/president of Kissick Construction. The company and the Brownes have been sponsors of KCUR’s RadioActive event since it began in 2016. They co-chaired the event in 2019 and 2020.
Julie has been a high school teacher of English, speech, theatre and forensics. She’s also been an active volunteer with Cristo Rey and Notre Dame de Sion, where she’s currently directing the school musical.
Julie and Pete are sustaining members of both KCUR and Classical KC, provide matching challenge funds for membership drives and are members of the Dods Watts Endowment Society.
They also volunteer as unabashed ambassadors of KCUR in the community. Pete chairs KCUR’s Community Advisory Board, and Julie has been an active RadioActive committee member.
They enjoy hosting KCUR events in their Roanoke neighborhood home where you can find them dancing most any Friday and Saturday night while listening to the blues, jazz and zydeco of KCUR’s The Fish Fry.
The Brownes’ dedication exemplifies how individual support can drive the success of KCUR, ensuring its mission to inform, connect and inspire.
